Most Unique Time to Visit Gibraltar!
If you’re wondering about the best time to visit Gibraltar for something special, National Day on 10th September is a must-see. This day celebrates Gibraltar’s 1967 referendum when Gibraltarians overwhelmingly voted to stay British. It’s a huge event and a source of pride for locals!
The entire territory comes alive with celebrations. Everyone dresses in red and white, and the atmosphere is incredible. Gibraltar and UK flags are everywhere!
Head to Casemates Square in the morning for speeches, parades, and community events. The afternoon and evening are all about live music and entertainment, with performances that keep the party going.
It’s not just about the events, though—it’s the sense of unity, pride and celebration that makes it so memorable. National Day is an amazing way to experience Gibraltar’s culture and history firsthand. Just don’t forget to pack something red and white to fit in!

Cheapest Time of Year
If you’re looking to visit Gibraltar without breaking the bank, the off-peak months from November to February are your best bet. During this time, flights and accommodations tend to be more affordable, making it perfect for budget-conscious travellers. The mild Mediterranean winter means temperatures are still comfortable, even if you might get the occasional rain shower (or deluge, which tends to be a January event!).
One of the best things about visiting in the off-season is how quiet it is. Popular spots like St. Michael’s Cave or the Skywalk are much less crowded, giving you a more personal experience. You won’t have to jostle for the best views or wait in long queues. It’s also a great time to explore Gibraltar’s museums and indoor attractions without the hustle and bustle of peak season.
The off-season does come with a few challenges, though. You might need to plan for a bit of rain or cooler evenings, but with a little preparation, it’s easy to enjoy everything Gibraltar has to offer. Plus, the quieter atmosphere more than makes up for it!
Tips for enjoying the off-season:

Cheapest Hotel Prices
Gibraltar’s hotel prices can vary a lot depending on the season. Summer is the most expensive time, especially with the crowds of tourists looking for sun and sea. But if you’re flexible, winter (apart from Christmas and New Year) and early spring are the best times to find a bargain. You can usually get lower prices at even the most popular spots, like The Rock Hotel or the luxurious Sunborn Yacht Hotel.
The quieter months not only mean cheaper prices but also a more relaxed vibe. With fewer tourists around, you’re more likely to snag a room with a view or enjoy the hotel’s facilities without the crowds. Plus, the weather in Gibraltar tends to stay fairly mild, so it’s a win-win.
If you’re planning a trip, timing and a bit of research are key. Booking your stay during weekdays can save you even more since weekends tend to be pricier with local and short-stay travellers. A little planning goes a long way in keeping your trip budget-friendly without missing out on comfort!

Cheapest Flights to Gibraltar
Finding cheap flights to Gibraltar is all about timing and flexibility. The lowest fares are usually between January and March, which lines up nicely with the best time to visit Gibraltar for fewer crowds. It’s the perfect time to visit if you’re on a budget, as both flights and hotels tend to be cheaper. Plus, Gibraltar’s mild winter weather makes it a great escape from colder climates!
Being flexible with your travel dates can make a big difference. Flights during the week, especially on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, are often cheaper than weekend ones. According to flight comparison and analytics site Momondo, the cheapest days to fly from London to Gibraltar are Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Using flight comparison tools like Skyscanner, Kayak or Google Flights is a lifesaver here. You can even set up fare alerts to get notified when prices drop, so you don’t miss a good deal.
According to flight comparison and analytics site Momondo, the cheapest month to fly from London to Gibraltar is November, and the most expensive is August.
If you don’t mind a bit of extra travel time, consider flying into Malaga instead of Gibraltar. Malaga is just a short drive or bus ride away and often has cheaper flights due to its larger airport and more frequent connections. It’s also a better option if you’re not flying from the UK, as Gibraltar airport only has flights to and from the UK. From there, it’s easy to hop across the border and start your Gibraltar adventure.

Best Time to Visit Gibraltar Weather Wise
The best weather in Gibraltar falls in late spring (April–June) and early autumn (September–October). During these months, the days are warm and sunny without being too hot. It’s perfect for outdoor adventures, whether you’re hiking the Rock or wandering through Gibraltar’s historic streets. There’s also less chance of rain, so you can pack light and enjoy your trip without getting too soggy!
Spring and autumn are also great for avoiding the summer heat. July and August can get pretty intense, especially if you’re planning activities like hiking the Mediterranean Steps (I definitely wouldn’t recommend doing that in the height of summer!). The cooler temperatures in spring and autumn make exploring much more enjoyable, especially if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors.
These shoulder seasons also tend to be less crowded than summer, which is a big bonus. You’ll have a more relaxed experience at popular spots like the Skywalk or Europa Point. Whether you’re into nature, history, or just soaking up the atmosphere, this is the best time to enjoy Gibraltar at its finest.

Weather Overview by Seasons
Gibraltar’s weather is one of its biggest draws, with a Mediterranean climate that’s mild all year round. The seasons here are distinct but not extreme, making it a great destination no matter when you visit. Summer is hot and sunny, while winter is cooler with occasional rain.
Spring and autumn are perfect if you’re looking for warm weather without the summer heat. Each season has its own vibe, so it’s worth knowing what to expect before you go. Let’s break it down season by season to help you plan your trip!
Winter (December–February)
Winter in Gibraltar is mild compared to most places. Temperatures usually sit between 12–18°C, so it’s still comfortable for exploring. You might get some rain, but it’s not constant, and there are plenty of sunny days too.

It’s a quieter time to visit, which is great if you want to avoid crowds at popular spots like St. Michael’s Cave or the Skywalk. Just pack a sweater, rain jacket and an umbrella, and you’ll be all set.
Winter is also perfect for enjoying Gibraltar’s indoor attractions, like the Gibraltar National Museum, or for indulging in a tasty roast dinner at a pub in Irish Town or a hot coffee with cake at a cosy café on Main Street.

My #1 choice of where to stay in Gibraltar is the 5* Sunborn Hotel
A five-star floating hotel offering unparalleled luxury and marina views, this hotel is the peak of luxury in Gibraltar.
Spring (March–May)
Spring in Gibraltar is lovely, with warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine. It’s my personal favourite season, although I’m a little biased as my birthday is in May!
Expect highs of 18–23°C, making it perfect for outdoor adventures. It’s also when the gardens and parks start to come alive. You’ll see blooms like wisteria and bougainvillaea adding pops of colour, especially in places like the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens and the Gibraltar Law Courts (which is the picture below, I’m obsessed with it every year!).

It’s a great time for hikes like the Mediterranean Steps or visiting the Windsor Suspension Bridge. The weather is comfortable, and the crowds are still manageable compared to summer. Just bring a light jacket for the evenings, and you’re good to go!

Summer (June–August)
Summer in Gibraltar is hot and sunny, with temperatures often reaching 28–30°C or more. The humidity can make it feel warmer (and awfully sticky!), especially during the afternoons.
If you’re planning to explore, start early in the day or stick to shaded spots during the hottest hours. I would recommend AGAINST hiking up the Rock during the peak summer months, as there’s minimal shade at the top. If you do want to hike, make sure you go early morning to avoid the peak heat of the day.
Beaches like Catalan Bay are ideal for cooling off but get very busy during peak summer months. Evenings are warm and perfect for dining outdoors in Ocean Village or Casemates Square.
Don’t forget sunscreen and water—it’s a must in the summer heat!

Autumn (September–November)
Autumn in Gibraltar is a great time to visit. Temperatures stay warm, between 20–26°C, and the summer crowds have eased. The only thing you won’t find in Gibraltar are pretty autumn colours!
September is still sunny and feels like late summer, while October and November are cooler with a slight chance of rain. It’s perfect for outdoor activities like hiking the Rock or exploring popular spots like Europa Point without the summer heat.
The sea is still warm enough for a swim in early autumn too. Pack layers for cooler evenings, especially by November. It’s a relaxed and comfortable season for enjoying Gibraltar’s mix of nature, history, and culture.

Highlights of Each Month
Different months of the year bring different highlights in Gibraltar, and some months bring iconic events (like National Day in September). Here is a quick guide to the most important events for each month!
May
May is one of the best times to visit Gibraltar, and for good reason. The weather is warm but not too hot, making it ideal for hiking the Mediterranean Steps or exploring the Nature Reserve. You’ll enjoy clear skies and comfortable temperatures, perfect for outdoor adventures without breaking a sweat.
One of the month’s highlights is The Convent Open Day. This event gives you a rare chance to step inside the Governor’s residence, which is usually closed to the public. You can wander through the beautiful rooms, learn about Gibraltar’s history, and even see the stunning gardens. It’s a unique way to get a glimpse of the territory’s heritage.
Dates for The Convent Open Day 2026 have not yet been announced. In 2025, the Open Day took place on the 20th May, in 2024 on the 8th May and in 2023 on the 11th May.
May also brings fewer crowds compared to the summer, so you can explore popular spots like Europa Point or the Skywalk at your own pace. If you love history and nature, May is a fantastic time to experience the best of Gibraltar.

July
July is one of the best times to visit Gibraltar if you’re into wildlife. It’s peak whale-watching season, and orcas are often spotted in the Strait of Gibraltar. Joining a boat tour gives you an amazing chance to see these majestic creatures up close.
I highly recommend joining a Dolphin Adventure tour! I’ve done two tours with them now and they’re amazing every single time.

The weather in July is hot, so plan outdoor activities like hiking early in the day and aim to stick to shaded areas. Beaches like Catalan Bay are perfect for cooling off afterwards. However, it’s one of the peak months for cruise ship arrivals, so I recommend checking the cruise schedule for the port of Gibraltar to check if there are any days with multiple ships in!
